e aim of this book is to provide a wide variety of music for the student
guitarist in their early years of progress. All the pieces can be
played in the first two positions on the guitar. Each piece is
completely fingered for the left hand. This book is divided into four
sections. The Classical section contains works by various well-known
composers. The Christmas section contains both composed and traditional
carols. The Elizabethan pieces were taken from anonymous
sixteenth-century sources. The Folk settings are arrangements of
traditional English folk melodies. Within each section the music is
arranged according to ease of playing. By learning the pieces in this
book the student can gain a thorough technical facility in the basic
left-hand positions and an understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of
the wide variety of music.
